hi all... i have two tables related to each other by Purchasing Order. In the master record there is Customer Name, Purchasing Number, etc. Then in child table are order details.

i made another layout that is supposed to be available only in table view, which lists all the orders and their details.

the layout is based on the child table, and it has a field Customer Name that is from the master table.

what happens is that in the table view, the Customer Name gets repeated several times in its field for each row. The field is not repeating field at all, and the entry was correct, such that the customer name was only entered once.

but when it shows up in this layout in table view, it gets duplicated for many times. i checked if the number of repetition matches the number of child records, but it does not. it just kind of randomly get repeatedly displayed in table view.

but in the Purchasing order layout... the field is normal... so it's quite strange.

Similarly, when other layouts and tables try to grab this Customer Name information, they also see repeating Customer names in its field, separated by a RETURN.... heh....

does anyone encounter such problem as well? i can put a sample online if u guys want to see one...

Mke sure the fields on the layout are set to the same Table Occurance (relationship) as the layout.

yes... it's set correctly. my user felt weird about this too. she said at first she entered the data, and she checked the table, and it's displayed correctly, but then afterwards... like after some time after entering more data into the database, and she found the fields began to display like this...

hmm...

"repeating Customer names in its field, separated by a RETURN"

If the Customer name is repeated within the same field, separated by a return ... and only on some records then it might be a data-entry problem of some sort.

Look at a specific PO record that has duplicate name (in the master table) and view it on a form layout. Expand the field boundaries so you can see more than two rows. Is the Customer Name actually entered twice within the field?

Table view will only show the first line of the fields, so if you've used RETURN to separate itmes, only the top line will be visible in Table view.

Table view may be quick and convient in many cases, but if it's just one layout, try desinging it in List View where you have more control.

yes.. i checked. in the beginning i thought it was the entry problem, but then i checked the records, it's quite impossible to be human effort. some names were repeated by a hundred times more, separated by RETURNs. seems like it's auto-incremented. but i have no such implementation...

i am investigating the problem with more tests now...

could it be an IWP problem? because all the entries were made by IWP, and could it be because of packet loss or misinterpreted?...

because as far as my test operations were carried out using FMPro7, there seems to have no such problem whatsoever...
