SLOW opening of files in Filemaker 7?

All,

I have a FM6 solution that was recenty converted to FM7. It's around 55 files, 350 MB total, and was just converted to 7--not optimized in any way. (We're testing the waters at the same time as beginning to plan migration)

One immediate problem is the SLOWNESS of opening files in FM7. We have a simple "System Menu" file that opens as quick as one would expect, but trying to open most other files from there (via a simple "Open File" script) can take as long as 30 seconds or more... and not even on a server, but on a local machine!

Trying to directly open the offending files gives the same result.

Looking at the output of "top" (OSX) while the file is opening shows little to no CPU usage--it's just sitting there for a while until it decides to open.

Has anyone else experienced this? Searching through the other posts I can't find a direct mention, other than just speed issues in general. Would optimizing the solution for FM7 take care of this issue?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Check File -> Define -> File References. There are probably several files (if not all) that have multiple references to be consolidated.
