Let me first say I don't use filemaker - I have just had a request from a user so have downloaded the trial version to see if this is possible.

He has received a cd from a supplier and it contains a database.exe plus a couple of *.usr file and a load of dlls.

The app was created using filemaker.

On running the app, I can search and view a list of retailers plus their addresses. I can also print but no print to file option.

My user wants to know if it is possible to export the address info into his own contact database.

I have had a look at it and have tried importing the usr files into fm7 but am confronted with an insufficent access privilege message. Is there any way around this?

If you need more info pls let me know what if this is not sufficient

Thanks

If the runtime developer have given people enough privileges, it is possible to export data from runtimes directly to several formats. (tab, csv, wks, xml etc.) If the developer did not give export privileges, then you're out of luck....

thanks Reed. I guess I can't do it then. To get at the runtimes I'd need a developer edition right? Which I can't get as trial...oh well.

You don't need developer to open and modify the runtime files... filemaker pro (or the trial version) will work just fine, assuming you have the correct username/password to get full access to the file. It's likely that the developer didn't distribute that information with the runtime.

You may (possibly) be able to use ODBC to transfer the data.

Perhaps the developer didn't want people to export the contact addresses?
