Hi all - hope the above subject is an appropriate discription for what I'm experiancing here.

I'm using the very neat feature in FMP7 of saving external files into my DB. However I noticed recently that the overall size of my db DIDNT reduce in size after I deleted a number of entries that had a series of big files associated to them. This leads mt to suspect that FM7 does not automatically free-up that space.

I've tried "compacting" my db (Filemaker tech support once told me that if you export your db - it causes FMP to free up any blocks) with little change. Have you had any scimilar experiances ... got any suggestions??

With FM Developer, you can compact the file: File | File Maintenance | Compact File.

I noticed that same issue happens to me. I'm hosting my files on FM Server 6. When I stop the server, the files goto a size near what I expected.

I haven't done anything with FM Server 7 yet, however, I would expect a similar situation.
