Auto numbering

Need some help on this one. I have created a database for a friend. It has a purchase order section and a job sheet section, both of which need sequential numbering. I have made the purchase order field auto-numbering but need to be able to create a button that when you click it gives a sequential job number as well as being able to enter a job number if needed.
