Can't find what I want in FileMaker Pro 7 Mac

Hello,

I desperately need help. I'm kind of new in FileMaker, so I hope you can help me. I'm trying to do a find in a column that will give all the numbers that start with 1, but instead I get what appears to be, everything that has a one. What am I doing wrong? I was able to do this with no problem in FileMaker 5. I'm kind of frustrated because I need to finish this soon so I can print it.

I appreciate your help

If the field is defined to be a number, then searching for 1 should return only numbers starting with 1.

Hey, Queue, I am not often game to disagree with you BUT ... searching for 1 in a number field should (and does) return the records that contain 1 only, not 11, 122, etc. Tht applies in V6 and V7.

I think jcpv73 was doing something other than that find in V5.

A text file containing numbers will behave as described by you both, ie find 1, 123, 145 but not 231, 241, etc..

You're right, Paul. I must have had the puppy set to text unknowingly. In that case, 1* works in a number field.
