Hi,

I've had an issue with FM7 and FM7Dev on my Windows XP PC for a little while and now it's become a real problem.

When I select field contents and copy, either by Ctrl C, menu Edit|Copy, right click|Copy, or by script, the copy randomly fails, leaving a null field in the clipboard. In other words, it writes over the previous clipboard contents with a null.

I was gnashing my teeth and working around this for a while, but now I need to use the Copy function in a script.

Something in the back of my mind says it may have something to do with Office and how it uses the clipboard.

And, I have the fewest problems after a reboot, then it gets progressivly worse.

Any ideas?

Have you updated FM7 to the most recent version. I know there were issues with older versions 7v1 and v2 with rich text and the clipboard... maybe there are other problems that 7v3 has corrected.

Does the problem only happen on one PC or on all... only in XP or in 2000 as well... Only with one of your .fp7 files or all? If you uninstall office does the problem go away?

Just trying to suggest possible ways to troubleshoot the problem. I've been using a scripted copy routine for about 9 months now w/o any problems.

I'm using XP service pack 2, FMP 7v3, office is not installed on this machine, but I've never tested on a machine that has office installed (except on a Mac with office 2004, and there it worked fine)

Good question, since I'm the only one developing in FM7 here I'll have to install and play.

Very Interesting ...

I just had the same thing happen with FM5.5v2 on Windows XP. Half way thru a loop to copy / paste records, FileMaker lost the ability to copy / paste. The menu commands actually became "grayed out"

Happened a few times. I've since re-installed FileMaker, and waiting to see

I think that what you are experiencing is running out of memory while running the loop - thus the copy/paste grays out because it can't copy anything else.

I wonder why you HAVE to use copy/paste. Is it possible to use "set field" instead? There are no memory issues with set field.
