I am new to Filemaker. I have my main database (about 60,000 records). I want to search for matching records on company name using an Excel file that has 500 rows (or Filemaker file with 500 records) How can I pereform this without having to type in 500 names into find mode.

If you have both as FileMaker files, you can define a relationship between the field you are matching on, and then search for those records that have a related record in the other file.

I am new to Filemaker. Can you give me the step for doing this?

Help. Can anybody tell me how to do this.

The information is available in the manual and in the Online Help. You need to read about relationships before we can help you. Ender already explain the basic of what you need to do.

The best way to learn how to do a relationship is to set one up using Filemaker's steps. If you get stuck, then attach your sample file and will see if we can help.

p.s., Be sure to use FileMaker's terminology when discussing your files. This will hopefully keep everyone using the same ones in their answers.

As an example, when I started to learn about relationships, FileMaker referred to the File you were wishing to view the data in, as the "Current" file, and the file where the data resided, as the "Related" file. Others will use different terms such as "Master" and "Slave", but hopefully if you use the ones you know, the responses will too.
