Newbies mycroft Posted October 11, 2008 Newbies Posted October 11, 2008 I'm brand new to Filemaker & I've just installed the trial version of Filemaker 9. I setup a database using a sample template, but have a question on field entries. My field contains an alpha-numeric "ID" for each record. In this case - 1A1,1A2, 1A3,...1A9,1A0,2A1,2A2,2A3, etc. Is there a way to prevent someone from creating a new record with an already existing "ID"? Info in fields following the ID should be changable. I did search on the forum, but didn't really see what I was looking for. Thanks for any help.
Vaughan Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Read up on field validation, there is an option to enforce a unique value in each record.
Newbies mycroft Posted October 12, 2008 Author Newbies Posted October 12, 2008 Thank you. Exactly what I needed.
