millmaine Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 We have just upgraded to Filemaker Server 13. Client machines can access database without issue, however all functions are greyed out.
millmaine Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 Further to previous post, User gets message: "File is not modifiable." This occurs for all levels of access, including administrator.
Rick Whitelaw Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Not much help, but check permissions on the hosted files.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 That's the issue, almost certainly. OS X has to have file level permissions et correctly. Upload should do this. How were the files placed onto the server? Steven
millmaine Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 OS-X permissions was the issue. So obvious in hindsight. Thanks very much.
Rick Whitelaw Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Always best to use "upload to server" from FMP 13. I had the same problem when I first used FMS and copied the files to the server.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 File was copied into database folder This may mean that OS level file sharing is enabled. If so, please disable it. Steven
Matthew F Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 This may mean that OS level file sharing is enabled. If so, please disable it. Just curious whether this recommendation is out concerns for security, server performance, or data corruption? ...or perhaps just to avoid more of this problem in the future...
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 All of these reasons. Plus, it is not needed for effective FileMaker Server operation. Steven
Matthew F Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Sorry to hijack this thread, Steven. I also read about the recommendation to turn off file sharing in this Filemaker article. I'm wondering, what is the best way to access Filemaker Backup files and to store them to a remote volume? I would like to configure a machine where Filemaker admins can access their backup files without OS level admin access.
