tv_kid Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Hi there I'm trying to get SyncDeK to connect to FMS 13 on a clients' server. I have it working successfully on my own development server, but for some reason, ODBC/JDBC won't start on the clients' machine. FMS 13.0.5.520 on OSX 10.8.5 Apart from ODBC / JDBC access, FMS has installed and deployed correctly. Although ODBC/JDBC is ’switched on’ in the Admin Console, there is no ’tick’ on the left hand side. Additionally, the fm_xdbclistener process is not listed in the Mac 'Activity Monitor'. I have attempted to start the xdbc process from the command line by using "fmsadmin start xdbc" but receive an error message ("Error: 10017 (Requested object is disabled)". When I attempt to connect via JDBC (from SyncDeK) I get the following message: "Couldn't build table profiles, caused by: [FileMaker][FileMaker JDBC] Connection refused. Check that the host address and port are correct and that xDBC sharing is enabled on the host." This appears to confirm that the XDBC service is not running. I've got a call in with FileMaker support, but wanted to see if anyone else had come across this problem before? I've been tearing my hair out all day trying to fix it, and have reinstalled FMS twice... Thanks in advance.
Wim Decorte Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Do a disk verification/repair? Could be that the privileges are out of whack. Make sure to stop FMS completely before you do that.
tv_kid Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Hi Wim Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, and although it did repair a lot of things, it hasn't changed the situation unfortunately. Cheers Matt
Wim Decorte Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Check the FMS events log, for the time that you start up FMS and tried to do it from the command line, perhaps the event log has a little more detail that can be useful. Also verify that nothing else is using port 2399 (FM's ODBC port)
tv_kid Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Hi Wim I've taken a look and it doesn't appear to shed any further light on it. It just lists the error as "XDBC connections are not allowed", but I've included the event log from FMS startup in case you can spot something I've missed... 2015-02-04 20:45:42.791 +0000 Information How would I check that nothing else is using port 2399? Can I use the port scan option in the Network Utility app? Thanks in advance. Matt
Wim Decorte Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 All that the log tells us is that FMS starts with the xDBC setting toggled off. When you try and turn it on from the admin console or command line, what does the event log say then? As to finding out if something else is using port 2399, do a google on the netstat command that you can run from terminal.
tv_kid Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Hi Wim The entries at the end of the log ("XDBC connections are not allowed") appear when I attempt to start XDBC from the command line or within the admin console. Netstat doesn't show anything using port 2399. Thanks for your continued advice. Matt
NovaChan Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I have the same issue! Nothing is reported on port 2399 in netstat of lsof. Also repaired disk permissions. When attempting to turn on xDBC, I only get this in the FMS log: XDBC connections are not allowed. Please update the thread if you make progress.
Wim Decorte Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Is that in 13 or 12? If in 13: did you buy an xDBC connection pack?
Claus Lavendt Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Huh ? Wim, there is no such thing as a requirement to purchase an xDBC connection pack in FMS13..... xDBC allows (as far as I remember) 50 concurrent connections, but since the server advanced was taken off the pricelist, this has been included in the server. I have previously experienced some problems with parts of the FMS hanging or refusing to start. In many occasions, it helped to just reboot the machine.... Sometimes a re-install will do the trick...
Wim Decorte Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Huh ? Wim, there is no such thing as a requirement to purchase an xDBC connection pack in FMS13..... Thanks for setting me straight, Claus! I got mixed up with the Go/WebD connection packs. Made me think for a minute that the same applied to xDBC connections
NovaChan Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 This is FMS 13.5. I just tried reinstalling FMS and rebooting. No difference. I'm seeing other issues too: - Can't connect to web server when trying to enable web publishing - FMS won't start itself after system reboots. I have to force it using launchctl I just tried starting from scratch with a fresh VM image. Still no luck. Maybe there's something flawed with this image.
tv_kid Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 I only managed to resolve this by reinstalling the OS . On a clean install of OS X XDBC works fine. Only now I can't seem to get SyncDek to install....
mkos Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 (edited) I recently encountered this issue. Here's what resolved it for me: I re-ran the Deployment Assistant, turning ODBC off. I then re-ran it again, turning ODBC on. I'm not sure if this was needed, but prior to running the Deployment Assistant, we asked the users to log off and we closed the database files, so that they were no longer hosted. My FMS version: 14.0.4.412. Edited March 14, 2017 by mkos
