I've been testing an iPad app named "Jump" for remote access to my desktops (Win or Mac) over the internet. Works nicely providing there's not too much to do. Haven't tried to reach my desktops from within a FMGo database.

I want to take advantage of the FM16 BOGO offer by 12/20/17. I am presently using FM13 Adv. Are there any special concerns I should watch out for in going from FM13 Adv to FM16 Adv? Thanks.

Tim: No. I updated the host database two ways: 1) directly on the server & 2) by uploading a total replacement host database to the server. The replacement has no design changes; just new data. The mobile database on my iPad was only used to sync with the host. Thanks for your reply. Dave

I’ve succeeding in syncing an empty “fresh” mobile db on my iPad with my hosted populated db on a server hosted by a 3rd party. It works very nicely. I’ve also succeeded in removing records from the hosted database and re-syncing from the mobile db and found that it synced correctly; i.e., the records deleted from the host were also deleted from the mobile. So far so very good. Now, I changed some of the record-level data on the hosted db and re-synced from the mobile and found that none of the record level changes were made in the mobile db. Am I expecting too much? Also, since my hosted db gets replaced on the server on a daily basis with a fresh copy with new data, I want to delete all data from the mobile db and re-sync from the existing now empty mobile db to get the new data from the hosted db. This is not working for me. After I initiate the sync, the message from appears almost immediately that 0 records were synced. Thus far the only way I’ve can sync to the new db that was replaced on the host is to get a “fresh” copy of the mobile db over to my iPad. Once again, is it supposed to work like this, or am I missing something fundamental in my comprehension and processing? Is there any work-around that can help me accomplish my goals? Thanks.

I've meticulously followed the directions. My solution host file has been uploaded to a remotely hosted FM13 server at 888, which supports Easy Sync. My solution mobile file is on my iPad2. I am assuming that I should run the "Sync to Server" script in the mobile database on the iPad to trigger the sync. When I do, I get an "Unable to Connect to Server" error message. Any clues to what I may have missed? Thanks.

Wim: I tried to find the original reference to this and could not find it. I recall that it said all you had to do was to change the .exe to .fmp12 and it would work. Probably bogus info. Thanks for your reply. Dave

I've read that this is possible. Since each run time has multiple folders (Extensions, etc.) and many individual DLLs, how does one go about transferring all these to the iPad FMGo app? Is that even necessary? Thanks.

I need to segregate some FMGo13 files with the same names into separate folders by date, and then move db files into those folders. I use Disk Aid for the transfers. Can this be done? Thanks.

I use Triple8 to host. They support WebD.

It seems this is not possible. Am I missing something? Thanks.

I've developed a solution for analyzing horse races using FMP. For each race it produces a list of Factor Analysis Points such as below for a 4 horse race Horse 1 = 7.6 Horse 2 = 10 Horse 3 = 4.7 Horse 4 = 5.4 Is there a source of a custom function to translate the % of points earned by each horse into its probability of winning and then into Projected Odds :1? Thanks

In a similar discussion on Linked-In, I suggested that Filemaker-Go developers use an eBay store for the eCommerce component of the App Store. Our apps can be sold as fixed priced digital goods, for which eBay charges a flat fee for the listings. Sellers just need to be responsive to purchasers quickly by providing links for downloads of the apps they purchase. I use Box.net for mine and have a link at the ready at all times whenever I get a message from eBay about a new purchase. If anyone wants to test this approach, I'd be willing to use my eBay account for the test.

For those who enjoy the annual Kentucky Derby and all the important prep races leading up to it, Hometown Information Technologies and Racing Ventures, Ltd. are pleased to announce the availability of the 2013 version of the One Minute Handicapper (OMH). Designed entirely using Filemaker11Adv and produced as run-time implementations for both Windows and Macs, OMH scrapes raw past performances data from industry sources and scores horses using 24 variables that are well-known indicators of success on the race track. This product is well-suited for casual players who don't want to pore over complex data in trying to hit the high-priced winners which have occurred in the Kentucky Derby in recent years. Attached is a worksheet produced from OMH for the Tampa Bay Derby on Saturday, 3/9, at Tampa Bay Downs in OLdsmar, FL. This race has been one of the key prep races for the Kentucky Derby every year. Hometown Information Technologies specializes in Filemaker Pro and Filemaker-Go development for the horse racing and breeding industries, among others. OMHWSTAM030913.pdf

Is it a fact that FMP11A Run Time productions do not support charting. I have some nifty charts in the full version that do not appear in the Run Time versions.

I did some experimenting by uploading two instances of the same primary db to FMS11 on a remote host (e.g. ABCD.fp7) When I attempted to upload the 2nd instance, the FMS console recognized the common file name and asked if I wanted to rename it before proceeding. On a hunch I renamed it to ABCD(1).fp7 and the upload proceeded. Upon testing, both instances seemed to be available for use and worked normally including any relationships with the other 9 dbs. Now I have out figure out how to use file list filtering and see if it can be done via my remote hosting service. The service doesn't seem to offer a config setting via the console where I can enable or disable a feature to display only the databses each user is authorized to access. Thanks again Steven. Dave

Can file list filtering be used to stand up mutiple instances of the same db (with the same name) so that individual users access different instances? E.g. I have a solution consiting of 10 Dbs. Only one is used interactively, but it is related to the other nine. No user has to touch the other nine, only the admin for periodic updates in the background. Lets' say the one db is named ABCD. The name has to stay the same because of the relationships with the other nine. If I stand up five instances of ABCD with file list filtering so that five different users are pointed to five different instances of ABCD, will that work to reach my goal? Is there a better way to do this? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I've setup the guest account privilege set as suggested...... (records to Read Only in all tables. Set Layouts and Value Lists to View Only and set scripts to Executable Only.records to Read Only in all tables)....... yet I find that all menus are still available when the guest account is opened under FMserver11. What am I missing? Does the account have to have a name other than guest? Thanks again. Dave

I have a solution consisting of 11 related databases remotely hosted on FM11Server where I want to provide guest access for demos. I've gotten myself very confused about the proper security settings for this. All I want to allow the guests to do in the demo mode is to navigate from screen to screen using icon buttons attached to scripts which deliver the navigation. Is there a standard set of security privileges I need to set in each of the 11 databases for the limited guest access I wish to provide? Thanks

FMGo-Based App to App Store? Anyone Succeed?
eqitec posted a topic in FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad
Are the requirements for this the same as for OIS-based apps? Has anyone succeeded in getting their FMGo-based App into the App store. Are there any service businesses expert in getting this done? Dave -
Having done some testing with a solution converted to 12, I've started to see that I wasn't getting the 1st record under my scripts to import from .csv files. I looked back at how 11 was set up for the import and found the dialogue that asks if the 1st row is data or not. In 11 and before, you could check one or the other. Then I looked for this dialogue in the same import scripts under 12 and could not find the dialogue. In its absence, FM12 always treats the 1st record as a label, and not data. Is this just an outright bug, or is there some other way the imports have to be configured in FM12?

Worldcloud.com advertises that it supports Android device access to its hosted Filemaker Pro environments. Haven't tried it myself. I'd be interested if someone succeeds.

Alternatives to FileMaker Go for native iPad app?
eqitec replied to bbergman's topic in FileMaker Go for iPhone & iPad
I've tried this approach using LogMeIn from an iPad to my office PC and found the navigation to be too frustrating to be practical. -
I've worked around this on Windows 7 by setting the User Access Controls to the lowest level.
