Linkability with other macOS apps

I am looking in the FM world for someone with experience linking records to other apps. Specifically, I use Hookmark (previously Hook) from CogSciApps. I want to be able to link to FM db items in a writing project where I am gathering my data. This is entirely macOS ecosystem. The attachment is a screenshot of the Hookmark pref to configure another app link correctly. I have tried putting a link into a FM container. Other apps that I am using include DevonThink 3, Tinderbox, Mellel, Scrivener, Accordance, Bear, Obsidian, Firefox, and Safari.

In short, can I link a block of text in FM which is related to an article housed in FM to an outside word processing document and/or project management app?

I am struggling to understand what exactly your question is.

In general, there are two ways FMP can interact with another application on your computer: via an URL, and (on a Mac) via AppleScript.

  • To send a command to FMP from another application via an URL, you can use the fmp protocol. Note that "command" here means "open a file" and/or "run a script";
  • To open a URL from FMP you can use the Open URL script step or open a URL from a field directly. Note that Filemaker supports a limited number of URL schemes.

Added: I forgot to mention the option of opening a URL from a web viewer.
