December 16, 200223 yr Newbies Greetings to all from a group newbie Really stumped. I have been running FM pro5 on an XPpro laptop for about month with no problems until now. Created a related file to an existing (and working well) database and all seemed fine until I tried to open the same file set while not connected to my home network. At time of creation "relative path" was set and I did have TCP plug in and protocol selected. Relationship was mistakenly made to a copy of the same file on another drive on the network (whoops). After seeing my mistake as viewed in Window (another instance of that file checked) I remedied it by reestablishing relationship to the proper file. If you don't have a headache yet, here it gets interesting. I now cannot open the file set unless I am connected to the network on the laptop. No problems are encountered opening the same file set on the PCs on the network (running WinMe). Attempts at opening on laptop result in "FileMaker has encountered a problem and must close" and MSs auto generated "report a problem dialog box". Am also unable to create any new FM pro files, attempts result in "The access privileges in this file have been damaged or possibly tampered with" dialog box. While connected everything is "peachy". I have reinstalled FM pro5, not installing any network capability (Single User) and still have same trouble. I purchased Pro6 upgrade and applied it and have same result. I have applied all appropriate patches after installations... same deal. All other copies of the files have been removed from other drives. I would appreciate your help...Any help. FYI FileMaker support offered solutions I have already tried but also suggested reinstall of WinXP... yellowpike
December 18, 200223 yr Try logging into the laptop with a different user account and see what happens. Will
December 19, 200223 yr Author Newbies Where there is a WILL, there is a way Outstanding! It worked. I reinstalled Pro5 full (not Pro6 Win upgrade) and created a new admin account. Files opened and checked out fine. On program close though I had the same "Encountered Error" dialog box as before, But... I reopened file (same new account), ran recover and files now open and program runs OK in new account only. My friend...What the heck is going on ? Dispite the lingering question, I want to Thank You ! Rock On yellowpike

Found help at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm Trouble was with network printer drivers NOT being installed on laptop hard drive. See link above for explaination.
