jesperv Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 I use Illustrator 10.0.3 and FileMaker 6.0.3 on Mac OS X.2.3. Whenewer I copy an element of any sort in Illustrator it conflicts with FileMaker. Everything in FileMaker is going very slow until I quit Illustrator. WHY - or more important - can I do anything about it? Jesper Videbak
andygaunt Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 If, when you quit Illustrator FileMaker speeds up, then it sounds like a memory issue. How much memory do you have in your machine?
jesperv Posted January 12, 2003 Author Posted January 12, 2003 1 PowerBook G3/333 with 320 Mb and 1 G4/867 DP with 1.25 Gb. It?s the same problem on both. I can make and open very big files and run heavy filters on them without problems. But when I copy even a very smal and simple element, it brings FileMaker slow.
BobWeaver Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 When you copy a very large object, it goes into the clipboard, and may be using up lots of valuable RAM. Even after you paste it into Filemaker, it still exists in the clipboard. To free up clipboard memory, try copying a very small piece of text, and see if that helps speed things up.
Newbies frankie Posted January 22, 2003 Newbies Posted January 22, 2003 I'm having the same problem as well with FMP 5.5v2 and Illus 10.0.3 on OS X 10.1.4. I have 1GB of RAM on a Dual 1Ghz Mac, so it's not a memory issue. It doesn't always happen and it doesn't seem to depend on the size of the elements copied in Illustrator - it happens with both small items and complex files. Also, there is the dreaded spinning ball problem in Illustrator (when you go back into Illustrator having been in any other application). This problem seems to be a lot worse if Filemaker is open. If Illustrator hangs with the spinning ball, force quitting Filemaker sometimes stops it! Any ideas?? Frank
