Newbies krazymad Posted March 14, 2003 Newbies Posted March 14, 2003 I just got into FM Pro, please bear with me. I want to created a Table view of info (date, time, action done, client name). But when I click on a "new" (its told to create a new record) button, it creates a new line, which I want, but also creates a new record. I want to be able to create a new line within my current record. Is this possible??? Thank you for you help.
Chuck Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 It sounds like you want to create a new line in a field of one record. If this is the case, simply place the cursor at the end of the field's contents and press the Return key. Chuck
Lee Smith Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Hi, Sounds like you want a new layout that will be a columnar (List) view. If so, Menu - View - Layout. Then hit new and it will bring up the boxes for a new layout. HTH Lee
Newbies krazymad Posted March 14, 2003 Author Newbies Posted March 14, 2003 Actually, I'm trying to create a FileMaker DB within another FileMaker DB. If I can figure out how to do this, then I'll be ok. Can it be done? Thanks for your help
Chuck Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Are you familiar with the relational database capabilities of FileMaker? It sounds like you want to create new related records in a portal, but you can't view multiple portal rows in a table view. You could have the user go to a detail view for the current record and this detail view could have a portal in it from which you can allow the user to create related records. Does that help? Chuck
Lee Smith Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 As in adding additional fields and broadening the information now in the file, or as in setting up a related database and linking them in someway?
