When viewing records in a FM database using View As List feature, it may desirable to change or highlight the record that is currently being accessed. Is there any way to change the color of the background of the current record and then change it back to the original color when the record pointer moves to a new record. I think there was a post on this forum that addressed this but I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks

And Then...There was nothing

in list view, the background color of every (editable) field of current record is the background color of the body layout part. If you cover the entire body layout part with a rectangle in darker color on white background, the fields of the current record will show in white.

After attemptimg to look up the leads given I found that

1) www.layoutmode.com isn't a vialble site anymore.

2) The www.databasepros.com site has the demo file of highlighting the list view but no code to look at. I tried emailing the author but that email address doesn't exist.

SO I'm back to the same issue. Although an overlay would work it isn't really what I want to do. I want to change the background color of the body when the record cursor is on that particular record. A piece of code to do that would be much appreciated.

Hi Jammer,

The seemly demise of layoutmode.com was recently discussed in another area of the forum. It's a real shame if this site is in fact gone forever. It will be sorely missed. However, most of the files created and available at her site were also posted at:

This is weird. I just did a search there for Highlight and pulled 19 files matching that. You can [color:"red"] NOT view the files at his site, you[color:"red"] MUST download them. In order to do that, set your browser Download preferences to put the files where you want them, and then click on the [color:"red"] Icon representing which flavor of computer you use. All you have to do is to click on the Mac or Win Icon and it will download to your hard drive.

Also, when you are at JMO's site, there in the Heading (above the resources) is a link to contact him which looks like this [color:"blue"]John Mark Osborne . Clicking it takes you to your email program (i.e. Outlook Express) with [email protected] already filled in, in the To: address box.

BTW, clicking on the Icon is typical of how all of the FM tip and trick sites that I know of, work.

hi lee,

in #2 there actually IS no code. That's the beauty of it. It's a layout-only technique.

Hi Mad Jammer,

reading instructions is not always a waste of time.

Hi Christian,

My response to Jammer really wasn't aimed at any particular file, But instead, I was trying to educate him on how to use the site(s) and see the files.

Wish I had been as eloquent as you in saying it.

Lee,

Thanks for the response.

I downloaded the highlight file to my desktop and ran the demo from there. Went looking for code and didn't find any. As the Jaegermeister says it is a layout only technique.

Downloaded the item again and this time got what I needed. In fact, there is code in the form of a script named Record Selector. There is also a text field named gHighlight that covers the entire body of the record. When the text box is clicked the Record Selector script is executed, which toggles the text box color. The other text fields are simply dropped on top of the gHighlight field so their color doesn't change.

I knew that this was probably the implementation stratgey for the highlight routine but I didn't know the code required to get it done. Now I've found that as well.

BTW, The email I sent was not to JMO but to the guy who actually wrote the snippet, Ray Cologon. The email link to this guy is invalid on JMO's site.

Hi Mad Jammer,

I'm looking at your post and I don't see any addtional questions in there, if there is, please repost it.

You are in Luck, Ray Cologon is a member of this list. and he also has his own site with many excellent tip files. His URL is:
