and before everyone says something, i have used the search button!

I am pretty new to fm but i was able to quickly setup an asset database for my work warehouse in no time with web companion access.

I just have some goals that i am trying to figure out that i could use a little help/suggestions on.

I would like to make it so you can select which assets can goto a packing slip. This would allow packing slips to be made in minutes instead of using excel to enter all of the information that is already present. The packing slip needs to be saved and the assets need to be either moved to another database or have the location field changed when the packing slip is complete.

I figure i can use a script to cut and paste it into the packing slip and then save the packing slip as a record. Then the script would delete the original asset info after the packing slip is completed....

It would also be nice if the script could convert the slip into a pdf for easier access/printing.

I appreciate any suggestions/help/tips.

welp i made some progress but am currently stumped right now

I have a po, asset, and a contact database. Right now i have it setup so that you create a new po, the po is auto assigned a po #, then you view the assets, select from a dropdown box the po# that it is assigned to. Then you can view the po and see the assets attached to the po#. The problem is that I am using a portal to view the assets associated with the po#, and of course its a lady canine to print portals.

I've done tons of reading and searching about po's and inventory and everyone says to make a line items db to store the assets for each po, then view them as list, and somehow make it print with the header of the po layout.

Still confused but im thinking that the lines item stores all of the assets, related to the po # that allows creation of the related records. I can still use the portal to view the assets to the po, but i guess i need to make a script to goto the line items db and print that one out and then switch back to the po db.

Any help is welcome

Hi Tyrant,

As you suggest at the end of your post, it is handiest to print via a set of scripts.

The first script, in the po # database, should do something like

-goto related records [show, asset_relation]

-set global fields in the asset database to values that you need from the po database

-then jump to the print script in the assets database

-some dummy step (goto field []) to make filemaker return to the po database afterwards

The printscript in the assets database

- goto printlayout

- page setup

- print

- goto original layout

Wow that works great, was pretty simple to follow as well. I just copied the header over and all is good now. Now if only i could get my filemaker books in to learn some more.
