FileMaker and USPS Bar Codes

Featured Replies

I am working on a project that tracks orders. I have a field which stores the USPS Delivery Confirmation number, however I was wondering if anyone has experimented with a inexpensive bar code reader setup that would automatically input the Delivery Confirmation number, rather then manually inputting it for every package. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You can certainly scan the barcode which is a standard scannable code. However, you may be interested to know that we offer some software which allows for direct USPS integration, including downloading of the USPS Delivery Confirmation barcode in PDF, JPEG or TIFF format which you can then include in your FMP layouts or print to a half-sheet label for placement on the package. As a by-product, the DCN is already inputted into FMP - no need to scan. We also then recommend an email be generated to the recipient at the time of shipment. This always is good to let the customer know the product is shipping, and that it's in the mail stream. You can also run a script to verify that the package has been received.

All around, getting the DCN into FileMaker is certain to improve your shipping workflow.

Best of luck!
