March 20, 200421 yr We have currently developed a POS solution for restaurants, and would like to add the ability to identify a waiter using some kind of hardware gizmo (smartcard, badge etc...). Once the waiter is identified, a script should be triggered based on the waiter id. The plug in should work in both Mac/Win FM7. Does anything like this exist ? Who should we contact to develop it ? Thank you Version: v7.x Platform: Mac OS X Panther
March 20, 200421 yr There is a plug-in that works now in FMP 6 based on fingerprints. It's from productive Computing. Hopefully they will migrate it to FMP 7. http://www.productivecomputing.com Steven
March 20, 200421 yr The biometric plugin provided by Productive Computing is not cross platform. It only works on the Windows Platform Ed.
March 20, 200421 yr You're looking for the smartcard plugin from Waves in Motion: http://wmotion.com/smartcard.html
March 20, 200421 yr It is in fact Windows OS only. If there were to be sufficient demand, they might produce one for the Mac OS X. Steven
March 21, 200421 yr Author BTW, can the script be triggered even in kiosk mode ?... I've tried "cmd - 1" when in kiosk mode and it does not work....
March 21, 200421 yr I use a barcode scanner with a serial interface. a scan triggers a script to run via VBasic app. Charles
March 21, 200421 yr Menu commands do not work in kiosk mode because there are no menus. Buttons work though. Steven
March 21, 200421 yr AFAIK the Smart Card plugin from Waves in motion will work in Kisok mode. I have used it in a runtime but not a kiosk. It works by setting a field in the startup script to monitor for activity on the reader. You can then have scripts trigger on insertion of the card and removal of the card from the scanner. These do NOT need keyboard shortcuts to work. HTH
