Trigger a script when smartcard is connected

Featured Replies

We have currently developed a POS solution for restaurants, and would like to add the ability to identify a waiter using some kind of hardware gizmo (smartcard, badge etc...). Once the waiter is identified, a script should be triggered based on the waiter id.

The plug in should work in both Mac/Win FM7.

Does anything like this exist ? Who should we contact to develop it ?

Thank you

Version: v7.x

Platform: Mac OS X Panther

The biometric plugin provided by Productive Computing is not cross platform. It only works on the Windows Platform

Ed.

It is in fact Windows OS only. If there were to be sufficient demand, they might produce one for the Mac OS X.

Steven

The smartcard plugin from waves in motion is cross platform.

BTW, can the script be triggered even in kiosk mode ?... I've tried "cmd - 1" when in kiosk mode and it does not work....

I use a barcode scanner with a serial interface. a scan triggers a script to run via VBasic app.

Charles

Menu commands do not work in kiosk mode because there are no menus. Buttons work though.

Steven

AFAIK the Smart Card plugin from Waves in motion will work in Kisok mode.

I have used it in a runtime but not a kiosk.

It works by setting a field in the startup script to monitor for activity on the reader.

You can then have scripts trigger on insertion of the card and removal of the card from the scanner.

These do NOT need keyboard shortcuts to work.
