Filemaker not connect to remote host

I am running a G4 OS9.1 and using Filemaker Pro 6.

A client supplied me with a file that, when opened, gives me a log-in screen to a remote host over the internet. The problem is that I can access the host from 4 other Macs on the same network, all with the same builds. I have reinstalled FMP, then I reinstalled the OS with no luck. I have checked to make sure that TCP/IP is selected and that it loads successfully. All the Macs can get to the internet(meaning they can surf the web). I do not receive an error when it fails to log in, it just brings me back to the log in screen. As far as I can tell the Macs are running with the same extensions and programs. Which reminds me, I tried running FMP with a minimal extension set, and that did not work either. Is there something I'm missing? I've read on the forums about certain ports needing to be open. How can I determine that on a Mac?

Thanks for any help,

Tom

Can I assume you meant to write "The problem is that I can NOT access the host from 4 other Macs on the same network..."

Check that each client copy of FMP has its network preference set to TCP/IP. Also check that the file is set to "multi-user" and not "multi-user hidden".

Hi, GGS! Accessing a db hosted on the same network is not the same as accessing it remotely. I wouldn't waste time chasing extensions or set-ups... it shouldn't matter. We have both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X hosted db's running various versions of OS and both can access both types internally, but I have not checked to see if an OS 9 client can access remotely, even with TCP/IP. Now that I think about it, I don't think we were ever able to get that to work (OS9 remotely access a hosted FMP db on another network) and gave it up, but it's been a while so I could be wrong. We have no problems w/X accessing remote FMP hosts now, however.
