Records get duplicated accidentally

Featured Replies

Hi, I've got an odd problem and wonder whether anybody has an idea how to prevent this happening. In an invoice file (related to a product file and line items file), the users use the keyboard short cut for sort a lot (apple S), sometimes by mistake they type the keyboard shortcut for duplicate (apple d) and an invoice gets inadvertantly duplicated, throught the autoenter function it gets a new invoice number and if nobody notices it, it gets then treated as a real invoice, when in reality it is only a duplicate.

Is there a way to either disable the shortcut for duplicate, or to integrate a script which does not allow for the creation of a new record unless confirmed by the user?

Any tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks,

Sorry, I just realised that the invoice file is not related to a line items file. The actual invoice is really a flat record, it just looks up info from the products file.

Use scripts and buttons for record creation, deletion, finds, etc. and disable the option for those users to access the menus.

You can set the menu access in Access Priveleges->Passwords. Select the password that those users use, and change the Available menu commands to Editing Only.
