simoncpage Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Okay so currently I have a nice fairly tight filemaker 6 database. 1. Is it easy to upgrade this to .fp7 (simple file extension change) 2. Are there any annoying bugs that haven't been iron out yet. 3. I'm looking in to having a palm sync setup so is mobile version of 7 much better? 4. What main benefits am I going to get? 5. I'm currently working on organising the database from a one-to-many to a many-to-many will this version make my life easy for this? Any help or advice would be nice thanks! Simon
Kurt Knippel Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Well, my findings are that the upgrade from 6 to 7 is not the smoothest. What causes the most problems is that workarounds and tricks that we used to implement in 6 are no longer valid in 7 and in some cases do not work as they previously did. The biggest bugs that I have heard of are with the fuzzyness of the interface, due to the anti-aliasing of the fonts. Mobile 7 is not out yet, as far as I know. And from my understanding, it is the same functionality as Mobile 2.1, just with a new name. The feature set of Filemaker 7 makes an upgrade worthwile, but you may want to consider redeveloping from scratch in order to actually take advantage of those new features.
