I recently upgraded all of the Users to Mac OSX. The computer running the 5.0v2 Server is still 9.2.2. Since the upgrade, Only 3 users seem to be able to get on at a time. I have reinstalled the Server, and the number of guests is set to 30 (was at 15) and I have less than 10 trying to get on. Also, 15 files are open at the server (was 19).

I have found a workaround: unplug the network for the user; open FileMaker; reconnect the network; then open FileMaker files. For most this is not a terrible inconvenience. But it is surely not the best solution.

The FileMaker Pro Technotes only indicates that this happens when there are more than one copy of the Server running on the network. I have searched every computer and found only what I should find. One copy of FileMaker.

I am beginning to think that perhaps the network, connected to the Internet via a Linksys router and a cable modem, may be sensing another filemaker server that is causing this problem. However, when we access "hosts", we only see our files.

Help?

Is anything interested reported in the FMS event log? Is everyone using TCP/IP?

Everyone is using AppleTalk. I tried using TCP/IP, but the files would never show up. I could set the clients to use both AT and TCP/IP.

On the OS X version of FM5.5/FM6, TCP/IP is the only protocol available. Make sure your server is allowing TCP/IP connections.

In the Hosts dialog on the client, you should see all FM Servers (and their shared files) that are in the same network. To see files on a remote network, enter the IP address of the FM Server.
