Hi,

I am new to this forum and find it to be a great resource. My FileMaker skills are a little rusty. I would like to create a web based survey in FMP with custom layouts. A few years back I did this by using FMP 4 and Claris Home Page. I am using a Mac server and laptop with OSX 10.2. I have access to FileMaker 5, 6 and 7. Of course I have a tight timeframe to complete this task. As far as I know Claris Home Page has not been updated. I have access to DreamWeaver but it looks like I need a PC server to run it. I've been doing a web search and see that FreeWay Pro references FileMaker but they only have e-mail support and I haven't received an answer from them. I know there is "Dragon" but that is costly for one survey.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Diane! Yes, Claris Home Page is outdated but some folks still use it for Custom Web Publishing on FileMaker 4-6. FM4 allows you to web publish w/no restrictions. FM5-6 added IP restrictions so you would have to purchase FM5-6 Unlimited versions ($$). FM7 standard client has eliminated CDML Custom Web Publishing in favor of improved Instant Web Publishing. FM7 Server Advanced is not available until August.

I'd recommend sticking w/FM4 since you've kinda used it before and you would not have to purchase Unlimited.

FMFORUMS resident expert Garry Claridge made a post that contained the code you will probably need. LOOK HERE.

Just holler if you need help. If worse comes to worse, I can see if I can dig up a quickie survey I threw together some years back you can look at as an example.

Ooops... I didn't finish answering your post, did I? Sorry...

Yes, you need a server to serve your survey to those to be surveyed (tongue-twister). Basically, all you need is a computer (old one okay), FileMaker Pro 4, and a static IP address internet connection. If you have that, you can link to the survey from any other website. If you do not have a static IP address, you can do it with a dynamic IP address but I would not recommend it since you would have to update your web pages everytime you get a new IP address. There are FileMaker web hosts out there, but I have not really looked into that since I work at a University and I have static IP addresses and domain names for every terminal in my office... lucky me.

How do you get your internet connection?
