Hi all,

I really need urgent help on the procedure of how to convert/save a file in filemaker pro 5 format when using file maker pro 7 as I need to use the current files on a different system that has filemaker pro 5 installed and upgrading is out of the question. I need your help!!!

Thanx in advance

Stephen

There must be some way to convert them to the older format surely, you can do it with MS Word, why is Filemaker behind the times??? I really need to convert it to version 5 otherwise ill have to spend hours upon hours redoing it in version 5 which is really really really annoying. Surely there must be a way!

Seeing as it is already well-neigh impossible (or at least prohibitively complicated and time-consuming for any solution more complicated than a stamp-collection) to convert a version 5 to version 7, because of the humongous change of the FileMaker engine, going the other way must have seemed impossible to even FMI themselves.

I have not heard of anything, including third party applications, that could help with that, but maybe and hopefully a more learned person here has some trick for us?

The comparison with Word in terms of the gap you are trying to bridge: you are not trying to convert a file from Word 2000 into Word 1997, you are trying to convert a file from Word 2004 into DOS's edlin laugh.gif

Why do you need to redo everything in FM5? You can get the *data* into FM5 easy enough. Or you could turn on FM7 Instant Web Publishing and let the other computer see the data through the browser.
