How can i change the file names of my database without ruining all my relationships. I need to change about 15 file names but the system is already all set up and it has a ton of relationships. any hints would be appreciated.

Get hold of a copy of FileMaker Developer. This allows you to rename the filenames using the developer tools and update internal scripts and relationships.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have Filemaker Developer at this point in time.

There is no easy way to do it without Developer.

Rename the file, then check all relationships and value list and run all scripts, updating the file reference when prompted.
