WMJOBSPINFM Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Hey whats up guys? I am looking to upgrade from filemaker 5 to filemaker 7 and might go with the advanced server version. i like the features of the xml and want to integrate it with a web site's shopping cart and make my own order status thing. I found this version on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3773&item=3696065281&rd=1 and was wondering if this was a good price. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
Ano Nimus Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 That sure is a good price... too good. Certainly for a product that hasn't even been officially put in the stores yet :suspicious:
Deep Thought II Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 yea that one certainly has to be a hoax
WMJOBSPINFM Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 Actually I emailed the guy to find out more info. It turns out that he is actually a legit dealer and needs to take a certain number of pre-orders to qualify for an extra discount from his supplier, so in turn he needs to sell a few copies at his dealer cost. I also spoke to Filemaker and they say that the product is pretty much on target for the end of August and will probably ship around the beginning of September. I called a few other software dealers and they told me the same thing. Thanks for the warnings, but I think this one's legit.
The Shadow Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 His dealer cost is $999 on a $2500 suggested retail?? Generally, its 20% off suggested retail for most things AFAIK. I still think its a hoax.
WMJOBSPINFM Posted August 27, 2004 Author Posted August 27, 2004 Actually....I misunderstood what the guy told me. i was getting really suspicious so i called him up a few more times to ask him questions to see what the scoop really is...... basically the guy thats selling this, bought from a place that overcommitted themselves when they pre-ordered. they were aiming to get a big volume discount from their distributor, not only on FM stuff but on some other stuff that they bought at the time. they had a bad summer, combined with too much in unsold inventory, blah blah blah.... and went belly up. turns out there are people out there who scout stuff like this out and buy stuff dirt cheap. he has a bunch of "pre-order purchase orders" or something like that, which basically means that he has this version on order and for him its already paid for. so hmmm i thought, could still be a scam.....so being that he has like 60 good feedbacks, i decided to verify him with ebay and they say he checks out. So im still sceptical from the reponses that i received from the last post, so i did a bunch of digging and there doesnt seem to be anything shady about this guy at all. i spoke to him on the phone and he was even really upfront with the release date....he told me that he has one of the first priorities (since his orders were placed really early), but to still be patient since its currently an unreleased version. i should look into this buying into liquidations thing ....looks like a really good business.....maybe make a FM DB to take care of everything ;-) i'm still looking for some input before i make any decisions. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
WMJOBSPINFM Posted August 27, 2004 Author Posted August 27, 2004 he said should be end of august, but probably wont actually ship until either the beginning to middle of september.
WMJOBSPINFM Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 Here is an update on the situation - they are shipping now.......Also, he told me that he is selling them for 999, but he actually took my offer for 975. And the best part is that I already got my tracking number and should be getting the software in a couple days. he has 2 copies left at that price if you or anyone wants it. they are fully registerable and sealed. he has the feedbacks to back up that hes legit.
