Has Filemaker changed file mode in 7

Featured Replies

Using FM 7.0v3

Today I entered into find mode for one of my layouts. I did not enter any data into any fields on the layout and just hit the find button. Normally FM will display all records but this time it displayed an error saying,

"There are no valid criteria in this request. Type a valid request before clicking Find."

I tried the same on other files and tables and all the same.

What does this mean? Do I have to enter data to do a find now? This has never happened before. Are my files corrupted, or has Filemaker changed the find mode in FM 7?

Can someone enlighten me.

This is normal behavior for versions previous to 7 as well. Nothing has changed as far as I can tell. The only difference would be if you were scripting your finds and had Set Error Capture [On], in which case you would receive no error dialog and would be left with your original found set.

It doesn't make sense to enter find mode and then not enter any criteria anyway, since you'll be left with the original found set. If you want to find all records, just use the Records -> Show All Records (Cmd-J) step.

You are right. I went back to FM5 saw it did the same thing. I guess all the finds that I have done in the past were scripted for me.

Thanks.
