i am trying to get my pop-up list width to be the width of my longest entry.

im populating it with multiple fields from a related table (people's names) so there is no telling how many characters wide i need my list. no matter the font size it still cuts off the list items at the same point (about 18 characters)

is there a way to set the list to be as wide as it needs to show all text?

I tested this, but cannot duplicate the problem--even if you make the field width too small, FM automatically adjusts the field width to show all characters so you can make the selection. Names are almost never more than 40 characters, so make your field width this size for your chosen font. Maybe you just need to move your field to the left on the layout.

that didnt seem to work so check out my file. at the top of the main layout type in the LName field "Smith" and tab to get the popup list and you will see the third option is not completely legible. i tried moving it around and im not sure where to set the field width

It works fine for me on 2000, even with the width set at 1 pixel.

so you're telling me fm7 and winXP are worthless? one more reason i need to get a new job. maybe you could tell me how to set the width a certain amount of pixels. because i dont see where to do this.

In Layout Mode, View -> Object Size. Click on the unit of measurement in the resulting Size dialog until it is "px". Then you can change the width and height explicitly.

I wouldn't say it's worthless...yet. I would have to test on my box at home before making that declaration.

I got your attachment and--again--I could not duplicate your problem. You may want to move the field to the left a bit and stretch it to the right, though.

since you have my file....i want to ask a q through this post. some of my jobs want two names on the cover of the book that we produce. if you could look at the 3 different layouts with "cover" in them and tell me the best way to put a second name on the cover or in some cases we will just put "staff" on the cover for multiple professors to use. (im assuming that...) im thinking the wrong way about it by cheating and just adding text with either another name or staff.

p.s. the view...object size worx great you all rock!
