I have follwed FileMakers directions with no success. I can not delete a layout from the database file. I have tried to delete individual elements with equally no sucess. Everytime I try to do so FileMaker crashes. Does anyone have an ideas on how to delete a damaged layout other then what FileMaker recommends. I have done a recover, but that has not solved the problem.

thanks in advance.

As I recall for prior versions you go to a good layout and make it very long. Then go to the bottom of that layout then switch to the damaged layout. You should now be below any damaged parts of the layout. Delete it.

I have tried you suggestion, but everytime I go to a good layout in Layout mode and scroll way to the bottom and then switch to the damaged layout the scroll returns to the top and the damaged layout elements are displayed. I am on a mac so I don't know if this behavior just happens on macs.

It works in FMP 5.5 on Mac OS 9.2. It looks like FMP 7 doesn't behave the same way. About all you can do is go to a good copy of the file and import data. That is really the best solution.

Hi Sam,

A design should never be used after a Recover. I've taken test files and recovered them. FM says they are fine but they are NOT. Within a short period of time, they begin wonking out again. It will come back and bite you ... when is uncertain, but it most surely will.

Recover should be used to attempt data retrieval only. Keep a current copy of your design archived (or zipped) after every design change. And bite the bullet and import (as suggested). It seems like more work but, in the long run, it will save you many headaches.
