Newbies Daphne Posted July 8, 2005 Newbies Posted July 8, 2005 Background info: Mac OS X 10.3.9. Trying to install Filemaker Pro 7. I'm a web developer who is overly confident on PCs and Unix-based systems but this new gig has me working in a cubicle on a Mac and I'm losing my mind (what's with only one mouse button? Weird). Anywho, trying to get a trial of FMP7 on this computer so I can debug an application I wrote. When I go to install this trial version, I get to the page where I have to specify Custom or Easy Install. Whichever I choose, on the next page when it is doing the actual installation, it stops a little bit into it and takes me back to the page where I have to specify install type. I have tried both custom and easy install and get the same result. I WAS able to install the English language pack, and it looks like the installation stops on application install at OpenSSL (unsure... don't quote me on that, though I tested this theory numerous times) each time. Any ideas? Remember I'm not overly confident on Macs, so there could be a simple solution to this. -Daphne
Lee Smith Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Hi Daphne, and welcome to the forum First I'll over look the button remark. Did it install anything in the Application Folder at all (i.e. FileMaker Pro 7)? If not, I would downloading another copy of the Demo from FileMaker's site, and see if that changes anything. HTH Lee
Ano Nimus Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 You might want to try installing it being logged in as root user. That solved the issue for several people I know. (One button mouse: 'think different' translated into 'be stubborn about it ad absurdum'. Just buy a normal two-button USB mouse and forget about the wretched thang. Mac's only design booboo, as far as I'm concerned. (Maccies, flame away ) In case the new mouse has a scrollwheel: doesn't function in FMP7, just so you're not wondering )
Lee Smith Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 If you only need one mouse to move around your files with, what do you need two for? Actually, I have a wireless mouse and 4 button Mouse that I use with my iBook, and a Wacom Pad on my G3 Tower. To tell you the truth, I prefer the Wacom Pad. Lee
