Filemaker Pro 6 v4 and Win 2000

An installation has been running just fine for 3.5 years and suddenly Filemaker Pro 6 won't start--it gets to Loading IP/TCP and just quits--won't go any further. I disabled virus control, still no go. Is there a Windows 2000 patch that is conflicting with Filemaker? Does anyone have any other ideas? thanks for your help

Since I don't do windows, I can't be much help. However, when this happens to me on the Mac, it is usually tied to something I have added in the way of an application, or drivers.

So, I check what has changed in my system on or about the time FileMaker, etc. changed it's behavior.

Hi Gingy,

As Lee says, something must have changed.

If you have any plug-ins installed, I suggest uninstalling them to see if that makes a difference.

Failing that, it may be worth uninstalling FileMaker 6 and reinstalling it afresh, which may correct a corrupt preference setting in the registry if that is the issue.

It may also be worth doing some housekeeping - eg flushing out the temp folders in case you have a gremlin lurking there. To do this, use Disk Cleanup, which is generally located at Start, All Programs, System Tools, Disk Cleanup (at least, that is where it is on XP, I don't for the moment recall if the default location is the same on Win2000, but I don't think so).
