Nursedad Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Has anyone had much experience with the tab control feature yet? I'm working on a database that tracks editing information (e.g. shot numbers / shot details / lighting / clip length / etc...) and I want to use the tabs to display various categories of info. In layout mode, the content of one tab disappears when clicking on another tab. However, in browse mode, the content from all the tabs is displayed on top of each other. So...after adding the control and defining tabs, how do I enter the fields onto the tabs so that their content is only displayed when their corresponding tab is selected? Thanks for any insight you can provide. - - Jeff
Ender Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Here's a post that sounds like the same problem. No resolution yet, except maybe adding each field to the layout from scratch (instead of pasting.) http://www.maclane.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=4&Number=501557
Raybaudi Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Hi I can't replicate your problem in windows XP SP2 ! Can you send an attachment ?
Nursedad Posted September 9, 2005 Author Posted September 9, 2005 Well...seems as if the pasting may be the issue. I did the same thing as the user who documented this issue in another forum. Just inserted the fields from scratch and the tabs seem to work fine. True however that there appears to be little control over the tabs. - - Jeff
Raybaudi Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 So Ender was right ! You haven't to be lazy ! :therethere:
Reed Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I've been doing lots of moving fields from one layout to a new tab using drag and drop of fields. I haven't seen this kind of problem on windows or mac using that technique... haven't tried copy and paste though.
Foxzpuffin Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 I've had no troubel with either pasting or adding de novo, but an important point is that the field and for that matter anything on the tab must be entirely contained on the tab or it will spill over and mess up the other tab(s.) However, a problem I am having is being able to go to a particular tab on a layout. There seems to be no way to go to a tab other than the tab that was last accessed. How can one script to go to a particular tab so that the fields on that tab can be utilized in reports?
Newbies David Macknelly Posted September 11, 2005 Newbies Posted September 11, 2005 I had this problem when i first started experimenting with the tab control tool. Everything looks fine in layout mode but then all fields from all tabs are visible on the top layer in browse mode. The thing that i noticed is that you have to make sure that tab control box (the area that uses the tabs) in within only one part of the layout. If the box straddles two different layout parts then this problem occurs. I hope this helps, David Macknelly
Nursedad Posted September 11, 2005 Author Posted September 11, 2005 Just to make sure I understand you right... When referring to layout parts, are you talking about areas such as the body/header/footer? Thanks. - - Jeff
Tony O Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I'm pretty sure that David meant the Tab object itself when he said layout part. I have seen the behavior you cite when a field on the tab object extends past it's borders. Try reducing the size of the fields on the tab layout a bit until they are well within it's borders. You should see the problem go away. hth, T
Newbies David Macknelly Posted September 13, 2005 Newbies Posted September 13, 2005 Yes that is correct. If any input field within a tab control area falls within two layout parts (header/footer etc) then it will show on the top layer of the tab control area in every tab. This is also the case if the tab buttons (set to navigate between the different tab layers) fall over two layout parts (header/footer etc). This will mean that every element placed on the tab control area will be visible in browse mode regardless of which tab layer is visible/selected. I hope that this helps. David Macknelly
Nursedad Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 It absolutely helps. I tested this after reading your post and no longer have the bleed-thru problem. The tabs feature alone (in my opinion) makes the upgrade to 8 well worth the investment. Thanks for helping out on this one. I was pulling my hair out (what little there was left). : -- Jeff
