We have a couple of strange problems here that I wanted to mention, and see if anyone else is experiencing the same.

In Windows 2000, FMP 8, Large text fields (8.5 x 11 or larger) seem to cause a major slow down when typing. So much so that you can type a sentence in the time that it takes it to display the first word. This problem does not seem to effect OSX from the same layout / file.

In OS X 10.4, we have a few font problems. Times seems to cause FMP 8 to slow down, especially when entering preview mode, changing layouts, or records. Also we seem to have some trouble getting Helvetica to print at all. I have test this out on a fresh install of 10.4.2 (trying to eliminate any of our own font problems that we may have) and the same behavoir exists. This does not seem to effect Windows.

Can anyone else confirm?

Mac - Might be related to the fact that version 8 requires that the original system fonts be installed.

Use the Font Book Application and see if your Times is turned off or something.

We have noticed a major slowdown with large text fields in Windows WP anc v8

We have had major slowdowns when switching from FM 6 to 7 and again when switching to FM 8, which turned out to be font related, and for us anyway, easily resolved. It seems that in the transition or something the fonts are not being recognized correctly, although they looked fine on the screen, page turning, typing etc. was very, very slow. The clue what that if I selected a text item on the layout and then pulled out the Font menu the font used was not checked as is usual. We use only 1 font for everything and all I had to do was open each layout of each document, select all and then set the Font to Times (what we use). After that all the speed problems were gone, until FM 9 I suppose.
