Newbies FMpretender Posted September 30, 2005 Newbies Posted September 30, 2005 I'm hosting a filemaker 8 database on fm 7 server and I'm getting very strange behaviour. When I print to my HP i get an error message the says "out of memory" this has happened on every mac that i have installed fm8 on??? anyone else have problems printing with fm8? Also, when i print a multiple record report in "view by list mode" I get it to print ok (to a different color printer) but it prints as many copies as there are records??? it prints the page as it is supposed to be, with all of found recordes on the print but it also prints onecomplete page for every record in the found set. is 8 buggy? How can ALL of the computers that I have put 8 on have this same problem? I'm using macs running tiger or panther and connecting to a pc running fm server 7 Help, all my people are mad at me and I don't how to fix this. thanks fmpretender
Reed Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Do you get the same problem with v7 on those machines, or is it specific to v8? I haven't noticed a difference in any of my print reports going from 7 to 8.
Zero Tolerence Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 When I try to print info on larger tables I sometimes get the "Out of Memory" message. The only work around I could find was to make sure I'm only printing one table at a time. I don't know why it does this.
Newbies lj8364 Posted October 8, 2005 Newbies Posted October 8, 2005 We have had this issue with both filemaker 7 and filemaker 8 at our company.. From the research that I have done using Mac OS 10's built in print engine it actually does a print to PDF first then dumps that to the print que... When it creates the PDF it actually dumps 100's of copies of fonts into the PDF document and causes major print issues especially with printers that have a small amount of memory. I would suggest printing to a PDF then checking the file size just to see where you are at. I have seen since the transition to 7 from 6 pdf documents more than double in size and it has gotten much much worse thus the adobe distiller built into 8. hope this may help you out. Just FYI the adobe distiller does help if you set it up to print low res PDFs
