Script Variable as text?

I've noticed that when setting the value to a script variable, the calculation want the results as text. It doens't appear that one can set the variable to any other type.

Has anyone attempted to set a variable to other than text? I've done whole numbers as part of a loop counter with no problem, but nothing else.

I'm just curious if assigning it as a decimal number , date, container, etc... other than text could/has been a problem for anyone. I don't have any reason (now) to do so, but wanted to gear up if at any future point in time I do.

I could just try it myself, but I'm too lazy ;)
