Weird bug with container field + quicktime

We have a FM8 application that we are trying to deploy on PC and Mac hardware. We have stored a custom error sound (a Quicktime file) in a global container field and focus on the field with a script step to play it. This works fine on the Mac – however on the PC….

When the file tried to play it sometimes actually plays the proper sound, and sometimes nothing happened – however, regardless of whether the file plays, FM8 (Advanced, 8.0v2) then crashes to the desktop.

The Event Viewer displays the following error message:

---

Faulting application FileMaker Pro Advanced.exe, version 8.0.2.321, faulting module QuickTime.qts, version 7.0.4.80, fault address 0x00057e56.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I downloaded and installed Quicktime version 6.5.2 after trying numerous other options, and now the sound seems to play fine – though the field displays a “Can not display object” message which is annoying.

I don’t know where the error is here, but we would like our solution to work with the most recent version of Quicktime. Has anybody else experienced anything similar? Does anyone have any suggestions?
