Newbies stoertebeker Posted January 30, 2006 Newbies Posted January 30, 2006 I am using a FMP file created on a German Mac OS with my Win XP. I could change the number and date format, but not the content of a field. Example: calculation = MonthName(Date). The result is still in German. Did anybody ran across a problem like this? Thanks everybody for advice!
Lee Smith Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Have you tried the script step, "User System Formats On"?
Newbies stoertebeker Posted January 30, 2006 Author Newbies Posted January 30, 2006 Do you mean "Use System Format"-On ? Yes, I tried. This file is already set to always use the current system setting. But still...thank you!
comment Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 If you CLONE the file, then import the records, I believe the clone will inherit your current OS settings.
Newbies stoertebeker Posted January 30, 2006 Author Newbies Posted January 30, 2006 You were right! Cloning and importing did the job. Thank you so much! I assume the reason is, since the Name(Month) field is a calculation, the import forced a re-calculation, which cleared the "memory".
comment Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I think the reason is that the lists of MonthNames and DayNames are stored in the file itself. I don't know why this is so, and why "Use system formats" doesn't override, as one would expect.
Lee Smith Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Date format (i.e. dd/mm/yyyy, mm/dd/yyyy) also work (s, ed) this way in version prior to v7. I haven't tested in the newer versions, so I can't speak for sure. However, since it did this with the names... nothing seems to have changed. Lee
