Checkbox Menu Hell with 8.5 Avd.

I created a checkbox field but the checkboxes don't show up. When you click on an item in the list a small square flashes where the checkbox should be, but no checkmark shows up either.

Help!

Make sure the field has lines of at least hairline width and a line color other than white enabled.
