Newbies corsolini Posted December 14, 2000 Newbies Posted December 14, 2000 We have a videotape database we use to print out VHS spine and top labels. We have two printers set up (one spine, and one top). The print dialog always sets the printer to the default (top) printer. Is there a way to set the printer through script so we don't have to manually change it everytime? Thanks much.
BobWeaver Posted December 14, 2000 Posted December 14, 2000 We are in the process of doing this same thing. Our solution is to run an Applescript from a filemaker script to switch desktop printers. Note that you have to have Mac OS 8.6 or later. Earlier versions don't have scriptable desktop printing. I can't tell you how it works yet, because we are still waiting for some networking hardware and some very inert management types.
Newbies corsolini Posted December 14, 2000 Author Newbies Posted December 14, 2000 I failed to mention we're on a pc!
BobWeaver Posted December 14, 2000 Posted December 14, 2000 Dang it, fooled by the default MacOS icon again. Alas my knowledge of PC's is less than zero. I guess you don't want to switch to a Mac?
Chuck Posted December 14, 2000 Posted December 14, 2000 This has come up so many times, I should check it out myself. I have heard that WinBatch, a macro utility of some sort, offers the kind of functionality that we Mac users get with AppleScript. You might check it out. Chuck
