nfregistrar Posted January 24, 2001 Posted January 24, 2001 I handle registrations for a boy's camp. One field that is entered is the boys birth date. Since FileMaker treats a 2 digit year from 00 to 89 as a 20xx year, there are often incorrect entries if someone (often me) forgets to put in all 4 digits for the year. I have set up the field name (birthdate) to change to ERROR if this happens, but this is not sufficient to be noticed easily. Is there a way to make it change to red or flash or some other way to make it obvious that an error has been made? Dave
Chuck Posted January 24, 2001 Posted January 24, 2001 Use field validation. In define fields, select the date field in question, and click options. Click the Validation tab and select "Strict data type" and "4-Digit Year Date" from the pop-up menu. You can also select from the bottom area "Strict: Do not allow user to override data validation." You should also probably display a custom message if the validation fails since FileMaker's dialog is usually not very helpful. For those dates that have already been entered incorrectly, check out this link: http://www.fmforums.com/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000125.html Chuck
