Dear Friends, I have adapted one of FMP's templates for personnel records to my small mail order needs, I would like to give all my 2500 customers a unique ID number. I know how to give all new customers an ID number but I have come stuck with all the present records, I think i nedd a script or something but i have no clear idea where to start. I have a visual quickstart manual but it doesn't give to much help.

Anyone out there who can give some guidance?

Click in the customer ID field and then use the replace command from the Records menu. Select "Replace with serial numbers." Pick a starting number. The starting number can be something like "CustID0001" if you like. This will put a unique ID number in each record, like this:

CustID0001

CustID0002

CustID0003

etc.

Then use the auto-enter option in the field definitions to create new ID numbers for future customers.
