kmcb Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hello, I apologize in advance if this has been posted, but the forum search function is currently down. I'm new to filemaker and we have recently converted our database from FM 5 to FM 9. The DB consists of 50 plus files and we are starting to discuss moving forward with an effort to combine all files into 4. Our company current uses Server for people to access the files via intranet and may start allowing access over the internet both using FM9 local copies. My question, we are looking for the advantages and disadvantages to doing this. In terms of speed, reliability, ease of use, new features that will be available, etc. Any thoughts would be apprieciated.
Fitch Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 It's an investment; there is no immediate benefit. The advantage is in future development and maintenance. Generally worth it, IMO. If you have some very large files, you might consider keeping them separate, for ease of backup. However, even in those cases I'd consolidate the interface.
kmcb Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) Fitch, Thanks for response. I also forgot to add. Is anyone aware of a tool to do the combining? I googled it and nothing jumped out. Edited November 13, 2008 by Guest
