This seems like it should work, but its giving me a hollow square instead of doing a carriage return in my field..

I have:

Trim(First Name) & " " & If( MI, "", Trim(MI) & " ") & Trim(Last Name) & "

I can't see anything wrong with your calculation (other than possibly needing an IsEmpty(MI) instead of MI in the first If() function ). I think you may have a corrupted layout. This happens sometimes. Try creating a completely new layout and placing the calculated field on it.

Ignore Post plz, I'm such an IDIOT, All this time I've been going nuts and right out of the blue I notice that I had the calculation set to "Calculation result is Number" I switched it to text and all is fine..
