Is there a font limit in FMP 5?

I'm installing FileMaker Pro 5 on 175 workstations and have found that a few workstations lock up the first time FileMaker Pro 5 launches. It begins to build the font menu and then locks completely somewhere near the end of the list. When I turn off some fonts it seems to launch fine. Does anyone know what the limit is on fonts?

Thanks,

Ted

I do not know of a font limit, but I do know that a corrupt font will keep FileMaker from launching. On the Mac, Font Doctor is a good resource for checking the health of the fonts on a system.

By the way, it is not unusual to find computers with 150 fonts or more installed, especially after a full installation of MS Office. Most users, except designers, probably do not need more than a dozen, if that many. Disabling unused fonts also speeds up launch of most programs.

I myself have not experienced a font limit scince version 3. I agree a corrupt font is more logical.

Thanks for both replies thus far, but I don't think the problem is a corrupt font since I can make the launch hang on different fonts depending on which font sets I open and close.

We are a design firm and our design and production systems typically have around 1500 fonts open through Suitcase 8.2. I know that's a burden, but that's our standard startup set and it's fairly impractical for designers to turn off fonts just to launch FileMaker.

Still hoping someone will know of an actual limit somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 fonts.

Thanks
