i have big probs with geting my long layout to page break with out choping text in half

i have a layout to print reports on company profiles i have fields like address, product list financial summary and ownership if any of these are empty then all that is below slide up. but the problem i have is with a text field called comment that will contain, in most case a page and ahalf of text that goes at the bottom of this layout but where it slides up on different record it ends up cutting the text across a line

is there any way i can stop this

please help cheers smile.gif" border="0

In my experience it's kind of a trial and error thing. Filemaker doesn't seem to know where to break a line of text across a page. So, you have to nudge the field up or down until the text breaks at the right place. When the fields can slide, it creates more problems.

This is a bit of a generalization, but I have found that if you make the lengths of all fields and layout parts an exact multiple of the line spacing, then it makes life a little easier. The idea is that once you have things lined up properly for the maximum number of lines of text, then the amount of shrinking of the field and layout part to print fewer lines of text will be an integral number of line heights, which should also break in the correct position. Of course, that means that you have to decide on a line spacing either by selecting the same font and font size for everything that can slide or shrink, or by manually setting line spacing for every field.
