I have to figure out in a network if on every computer a filemaker with a different number is installed.

Where do I find this information?

Thankyou for reading and eventually answering this question.

Well, basically, you can't. The complete install number is supressed for security reasons. A partial number is available in the Info screen I believe. However, if you try to launch a second copy of FMP over the network it will conflict with a copy already running that same number. UNLESS the copies were installed using a special volume license install code. That's what the volume licenses are for, to avoid having 20 FGU's (Finished Good Units aka FileMaker Pro in the box) each with a different serial.

Well that's the problem, somewhere there is a version conflicting. My customer has more than enough licenses but I think the person who installed it wasn't that into using different numbers.

So there's really no way, even if it's not the number by itself but something that shows that another number is used?

Else we'll have to reinstall the whole thing (pc's, macs, portables..it's a hell of a job).

The licence number is available in the "about" window but the three last numbers are replaced by "xxx". However, as the first 12 numbers are still readable, you can note the partial licence number of each of your computers.

Then, the two computers which are in conflict can be easily identified. You must only reinstall FmP on one of them and give it an unused licence number...

I hope it can help ! thanks you to keep me informed,

If the customer bought more than 10 copies of the FGU (Finished Good Unit aka FileMaker Pro in the box) they basically bought the wrong product. They should have purchased a volume license agreement. The VLA install number avoids this problem.

It may be that ALL the copies have the same install code, and that will be a problem. How many boxes were actually opened?

That's exactly what I was looking for: the 'about' window, where is it in Filemaker? Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but I can't seem to find it.

I'll have to check that, thanks.
