If by "protect" you mean to not allow the user to change the contents of, do the following in Layout mode: Click on the field you want to protect. Go to the Format menu and select Field Format, and uncheck the check box next to "Allow entry into field". Chuck
Newbies TLATELOLCO2000 Posted October 4, 2000 Author Newbies Posted October 4, 2000 THANK YOU!! And sorry for not having any harder questions, hopefully in the future I will.
Moon Posted October 8, 2000 Posted October 8, 2000 Setting the field keep the user from entering has a drawback if you want to find information in that field. Because you cannot enter a field, you can't select it in Find mode. If you need a field that cannot be modified but needs to be searched, create a calculation field that is equal to the field you want protected. Use that field instead on the layout where you want the field protected. You can click into the field in find mode but you cannot change the contents in Browse.
Newbies TLATELOLCO2000 Posted October 9, 2000 Author Newbies Posted October 9, 2000 Thank you. Your suggestion just saved me a big headache.
