Hi, I have a solution that I have received much needed help from by FMForum members and part of the solution is to filter a portal from a long list (1000 records). the application is to be used on an iPad and the filter doesn't behave very well in FMGo with the keyboard popping up and a dialogue asking me if I want to discontinue the script...I did a search and nothing came up. Is it just intuitively obvious to experts (not me for sure) that you simply don't filter portals for fields that will be used in FMGo? If so, what do you do? I'm filtering a list to select the item for use in another table

Thanks for the help! Mary

It sounds like you're doing more than just using FileMaker's built-in portal filtering. What other scripting are you doing around your portal filter? Can you post a file demonstrating the problem you're having?

The keyboard appears because that's what you told it to do.

That is, you have taken the user to a field that is open for data entry.

I agree with Jeremy, it will be easiest if you can post your file or an example.

A more detailed description description of what you are doing would be helpful.

Filtering - how? The user is supposed to make a choice to initiate the filter operation?

Hi,

How about filtering the data first, then run the script.

Instead of having to type in your search fields why not just auto enter ??  If the Filter Field is global the minute you enter in the data and "Commit" you'll filter your portal.

Then have a button to "Clear" the Filtered Field to return the complete list into the portal.

Tom :-)
